Sarah Swersey teaches flute and co-coordinates the Summer Chamber Music Program at NCMC. Sarah has performed extensively in the United States and Europe as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician. A native New Yorker, she spent seven years as principal flutist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. Since returning to the United States, she has performed at the Lincoln Center Festival, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the Tanglewood Music Festival. Sarah performs as the jazz-and-classical ensemble Dúo Fusión with Joe Belmont. She has performed on several CDs by Grammy Award-winning cellist David Darling, who co-produced her CD, Nightingale. Sarah holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Yale School of Music. She has taught at Greenwood Music Camp, Kinhaven Music Camp, and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Camp, and currently teaches on the faculty of Deerfield Academy.


Kitty Hay teaches flute and beginning recorder at NCMC. Kitty received her M.M. in flute performance from the Juilliard School and her Ed. D. from Columbia Teachers College. Before moving to Northampton, she taught for nine years at the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C.


Sue Kurian teaches flute at NCMC. She received her B.M. and M.M. from the Juilliard School. A founding member of the Kurian-Nix flute and guitar duo, Sue is also the director of Northampton Flutes, an adult flute ensemble. She has performed in Carnegie, Avery Fischer and Town Halls and toured Italy as a member of the Academy of Salerno. Sue currently teaches at the Smith College Campus School and the Community Music School of Springfield.


Jon Weeks teaches saxophone, clarinet and flute at NCMC. He has studied music at Berklee College of Music, Westfield State College and Holyoke Community College. Jon has performed with many latin, jazz, and rock bands up and down the East Coast such as Sol Y Canto, Orquesta Unidad, Ray Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, The Temptations and many others. Jon is currently directing ensembles at The Williston-Northampton School and Charlemont Academy. He currently performs with Viva Quetzal, De Lomas Y Sones, Joe Velez & Creación, Satinwood, Band of Love, Northside Saxophone Quartet, Look Out Brass Band, Jesus Pagan Y su Orquesta and Bossa Triba.


Jim Vogel teaches saxophone, clarinet and flute at NCMC, as well as Music Theory and Chamber Jazz. He currently leads his own jazz quartet and is a member of the Berkshire Bateria Escola de Samba and the Pangeans World Beat ensemble. Jim is a graduate of Bard College and the Eastern School of Musical Instrument Repair, where he received training in the repair and restoration of woodwind and brass instruments. Jim also leads the Williston Academy Jazz Ensemble and the Woodwind ensembles at the Hartsbrook school.
