Solo Vocal Performance Class for Teens
Jane Hanson, director

Renowned voice teacher Jane Hanson directs this program for teen singers of all levels who are interested in developing their voice and becoming more effective performers, and expanding their skills and repertoire in a demanding but supportive environment. All students will receive individual and group instruction throughout the year. Emphasis is placed on developing healthy, sustainable vocal technique, nurturing each singer’s authentic voice, helping each individual reach his/her individual goals and potential, and providing a safe and nurturing environment in which to practice the art of vocal performance. For students who are new to solo singing, there will be a particular focus on navigating the changing voice, increasing vocal range and fitness, and acquiring foundational skills to help them become more effective on stage and in auditions. More advanced singers will be encouraged to achieve their highest level of vocal proficiency and artistry, with emphasis placed on exploring new repertoire, character analysis and interpretation, performance and audition preparation, and improving tone quality and projection. Space is limited, so register early!

Students will have the opportunity to perform in winter and spring showcase recitals at NCMC, as well as optional performances at local venues.

Auditions will be held Monday, October 24 from 4:30-6:00 pm, and Wednesday, October 26 from 3:00-4:30 pm. You will be asked to sing a song of your choice. A pianist will be provided. You may bring sheet music if you wish to have accompaniment. Returning students of this class need not audition again.

Classes are Monday evenings, beginning November 7. More details to follow.
